Pack smart
What to bring
TRC is a queer oasis, but sugar, it's still the woods — weather, wildlife, and the occasional raccoon with no shame. Here's your packing list for tenting and the river beach. ⛺
Tent camping essentials 🎪
- Tent, plus tarps for the top and bottom — rain happens.
- Mallet or hammer — tent pegs don’t pound themselves.
- Air mattress or sleeping pad — no one wants to sleep on roots.
- Sleeping bag, or layered blankets if you’re extra.
- Pillow — you’ll thank yourself.
- Camp chairs — your tush deserves the support.
- Cooking stove and propane.
- Cooking utensils, dishes, and cutlery.
- Cooler, locking preferred — raccoons have no shame.
- Food — the nearest grocery is 10 miles out, the supermarket 22. Plan accordingly.
- Water jugs or bottles to fill — potable water is on-site.
- Beverages — hydration and libation, you choose.
- Ice — limited supply at the host hut when in stock, $5 a bag.
- Flashlight or headlamp, plus batteries.
- Lighter or matches, and newspaper for firestarting — start fires, not drama.
- Hatchet — for kindling, not conflict.
- Bug spray — DEET is your bestie.
- Sunhat — for sun or style.
- Bungee cords and rope — trust, you’ll use them for everything.
River beach checklist 🏖
- Bathing suit — or not, it's clothing-optional.
- Water shoes — you do cross a stream to get there.
- Beach chair — for that main-character posture.
- Towel.
- Hat and sunglasses — protect your face, preserve the fantasy. ☀️
- Sunscreen — you’re hot, not toasted.
- Small cooler — for drinks, snacks, and your secret rosé.
- Sun umbrella — for the pale, the fabulous, and the fragile. ☂️
- Thermal mug — keep drinks icy or hot, your mood decides.
- Tube, floatie, or an inflatable mattress — yes, we float here.
Fabulous optional things 🎉
- Twinkle lights, lanterns, or glow sticks — it’s a queer campground, not a horror movie. ✨
- Costumes — for theme nights, parties, or just because you can.
- Colorful signs — for your site, your beach crew, or your vibe.
- Condoms and lube — safety first, darling.
Water, food, and no signal
Potable water is available on-site (across from the Woodpeckers seasonal site, and at another station on Trail 6) — bring jugs or bottles to fill.
The nearest grocery is 10 miles away and the supermarket is 22, so pack your food before you head up. And there’s no cell service past Granite Falls — download directions and anything you need to look up first.
Camp address

Pro tip: if you forget something, ask around. Campers here are generous, charming, and often overpacked.
